Making sure you don’t see the data after you make the decision, and how a BPM platform can help.

One of the most frustrating parts of any kind of decision making process is when the decision seems to have been made and then suddenly an additional relevant piece of data is added to the mix. This almost always results in a reevaluation that may take as long as the original decision process. There are many reasons why this happens, but it usually comes down to a relevant stakeholder not being aware a decision is being made until after the fact, or a relevant data system not being able to supply its piece of the information. In both cases, the decision is being made before all relevant data is made available to the decision maker. This is a huge waste of time and can result in projects being started, purchases being made, and the entire direction of companies changed, only to find out later that if you had that extra bit of data, the choice would have been different. What can be done to reduce these scenarios? I feel a defined business decision process is key to ensuring that all relevant data is available to decision makers at the relevant time.

One of the best ways to accomplish this is to have an automated Business Process Management platform that can ensure that all the information is available before the decision maker is notified that a decision needs to be made.
